@Gamers Nexus I'm looking to buy my daughter a gaming computer. I seen your video about the Wal-Mart computers, and now I don't want to buy one of those. I have no clue where or what to buy could you please give me some advice. I can afford to spend between $700-$1,000.

+Gamers Nexus well if they just listed it at a higher tdp then there wouldnt be a problem. i think thats what they should do. but it doesnt bother me at all. i was going for the gig. elite board but there was a sale on the extreme4 z370 for 134 and a 25 dollar rebate. so i went with that. im running an 8700k now but when the i9 comes down in price (or maybe second hand in a couple years) i will crank it to 5ghz+ and set the power limit to about 220w and i have 2 120mm fans on that side panel that faces the back of the mobob and 2 40mm fans i will drill and mount onto the vrm heatsinks. if it goes above 220w then let it throttle. itll be pretty rare and wont matter too much

RTX 2080Ti for gaming is more working on 2K+ to 4K (and of course, there will be difference lower between CPUs, but for RTX 2080 Ti is it gaming typical scenario - no one will be play with TOP card on FHD LCD :-) )

2990WX stock vs Intel OC.... haha yeah okay what a useful comparison. No 2970WX, 2950X, or 2920X. How about you compare systems with the best possible motherboards and cooling, and ram for that architecture. instead of limiting them by the "same RAM, GPU, and Cooling". 18 cores with 32 threads versus 32 cores with 64 threads. the 32 cores performs at 20% less??? I highly doubt that

Only Threadripper offering represented was the 2990WX? Seems an odd choice considering the what? Dozen or more Intel chips? Made even moreso as the 2990WX was really marketed completely as a workstation chip. Where did the 2950X fall in there? Why did it not even show up?

The 9900K deserves "best CPU" award but well rounded no, it comes with a ton of caveats namely price, practicality even for a content producer you still need massive on top overlays just to operate one. It cannot be stock cooled making it non factor in OEM's which means it has no practicality in business spaces so it is not well rounded at all, it is actually a limited usage case type CPU, serves a niche market and that is an overclocker or gamer. If you are a genuine content creater you are going for X platform HEDT because the big boy content software is expensive and thread intensive. Change the award to Best performance CPu and I agree as long as the caveats are brought up.

Vor 11 Tage

stock vs stock doesn't attribute for core vs core parity, Intel runs clocks at 700-1000mhz higher frequency, this is like trying to put a Ferrari enzo in a BMW M3 class and price point. So if the 2700 in tile render achieves 8700 performance, it does it at lower frequency given that AMD's all core turbo is about 3.7ghz while the 8700K does about 4.8ghz with MCE we are not even comparing parity. I would love to see a high end review where stock coolers are used, you can take an Intel stock cooler from just about anywhere for testing purposes, alternatively you can lock the clocks at say 3ghz and compare core vs core parity or use phase change cooling to push AMD clocks up to the 4.7ghz mark to achieve parity. at 4.7ghz a 2700 will massively out perform the 8700K especially if it was already equal. I don't think there is ever a genuinely apple for apple comparison, Intel's trying to race a Ferrari in a BMW/Mercedes class race, hiding deficit behind speed. The next aspect is platform cost, if i have to work on my currency, the 9900K is brutally expensive, to get a cooler just to operate it I need to spend over a grand, more like 2-3 grand over just to get proper usage out of it, and a motherboard that is about 70% of the CPU price, to get a functional 9900K setup to use at its potential I will need to spend 17000 bucks on board, chip and cooler. A 2700 by comparison to operate it properly is about 9500 bucks, this is not even remotely close to parity. The 9900/8700 is really a super car trying to be disguised as a A Catagory sports car. The results are shown in Intels spiraling R&D costs, they are making less money than they need to.

Can anyone comment here about what are good mem modules for use with the Ryzen second release MBs and processors? I know there is the incredibly expensive G.SKILL Flare X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) AMD X370 / B350 Memory (Desktop Memory) Model F4-3200C14D-16GFX. I was wondering about other modules that work well with the platform. Preferably ones that the BIOS can set the timings for automatically though I know that's a bit more limited.

i love my 8700K. Pretty solid price for a VERY good six-core. Does everything i need for artwork and gaming, streaming and pretty much anything i needed it to do. Couple that 8700 with a GTX 1060, 32GB RAM and an Iron Wolf 10TB hard-drive... i've found no need to move up in requirements juuuust yet. Maybe with next year's programs and games but right now? i'm very pleased with my $1500 custom build computer. Was so much fun building it, picking a Spec 02 Corsair case though was a bit of a personal blunder, cable management is hell in this case lol.

Hey Steve I have a question for you. I have a threadripper 1950x with a gigabyte gaming 7 motherboard. I just added two more sticks of 8GB Trident z RGB 3000Mhz Ram. I now have a total of six sticks of ram in the motherboard. I noticed after the upgrade I am no longer able to change the memory mode in ryzen master. Changing it to Game Mode causes the motherboard to beep one long beep and one short. Then after that trying to change it to distributed mode is blacked out. I have tried going back to four sticks and it did not solve the issue. I am very new to computers and building so forgive me if I am not sure what's going on. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

was gonna buy a 2080ti but it looks like my cpu (i7 4790k stock because it wont overclock to shit) is going to be a bottleneck for what im looking for. after upgrading my gpu a year ago to a 980 and getting a 144hz 1440p monitor i never want to go back to 60hz (60fps) or anywhere near that. So it looks like if i want a good average and 1/.1% low fps to be anywhere near 100fps for the games i play (bf3,4,5, cod blackout, minecraft just when i need to relax lol dont judge, squad and other random cool or new games) i need to build a completely new pc... $2k plus looks like my budget for this goal..

Regarding benchmarks: You folks at Gamers Nexus will be too young to remember, but back in the early days of CPU chips, a common benchmark was the Sieve of Eratosthenes, which generates a series of prime numbers.  It didn't take long for the CPU makers to catch on, and start optimizing the silicon for that particular benchmark, eventually leading to it's abandonment.  I think we as consumers often place too much emphasis on relatively small differences in performance, and that's what pushes the manufacturers to focus on benchmark results, rather than real world performance.

Can't understand why people ignore x299 with 7800x (especially the newer stepping) and prefer 6/8 core cpus for intel's 300 series boards. X299 boards have more powerful vrms at lower prices and skylake x offers 512 bit instructions, resulting in a sane amount of future proofing. Going for 1151 processors under the circumstances doesn't make sense.

Vst´s are 50% third party, 50% native, fx´s like eq, comp, etc... are 80% native, 20% third party. What should I aim for? Cheers!
