So someone needs to make a front panel spacer kit to get more airflow. The power supply is perfectly adequate. Who cares about its looks when it's hidden under the shroud? From the benchmarks I've seen people do VS other systems with the same CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM, the only issue is the 16 gig Walmart configs have one 16 gig DIMM when they should have a pair of 8's. Swap in a pair of 8's, same brand, same specs, and test it again. ADATA is a good company that has very good warranties on their memory and storage products.

You didn't test the power supply at 240V, i suggest you get a nema 6-20 or 6-15 socket for testing efficiency at 240v and 120v, good video regardless!

I don't know how I stumbled upon this Walmart gaming computer debate on Youtube, I haven't played computer games in years and know nothing about any of this. But yet, I can totally relate to what's going on here. Branding and preconceptions and judgements etc. It's ubiquitous. Whether it's cars, watches, sneakers, electronics or computers, it's all the same. I understand the heavy desire to slam Walmart for this premade PC. I'm sure it cuts every corner. But the bent of "this sucks, I know better" or "Chinese Made sucks" or the prejudice towards other "serious" brands, even if they use a Great Wall unit (whatever that means). It's all so relatable. This exact debate is happening in thousands of different ways in a thousand different areas. Basically any time something goes mainstream, it's the paradigmatic response of the "hardliners", who usually hold some "real" bastion of orthodoxy up as a cult hero. So in this case, maybe it's some weird brand Zebra or something that makes marginally good PC power supplies for $5 cheaper and somehow they're heralded as the "real" computer lovers power supply. (You neeeed a Zebra bro!!! Shit, this system sucks I would have put a Zebra in there.) Even though 99.99999% of Walmart PC buyers will NEVER come close to maxing out the potential of this product, let alone notice any difference between your expert build and their corner cut offering. Take it for what it is. It's an entry level unit, and the kid who will "blow out" the power supply is also the kid interested and deep enough in the hobby to take the next step.

Awesome testing! Was curious about the power supply in these machines. Looked like the cheapest thing in them... Wish they would have spent a little cash to paint them to match the case and sheath the cables imo but as long as it proves reliable. Im really curious about fan life. Most cheap power supplys ive experimented with failed seemingly only because of the fan failing first. That said quality of the power supply can make a difference in overclocking! I had an old sempron 140 laying around and got to messing with it trying to unlock the 2nd core. Cheapo power supply = no dice. Older well built power supply (some antec from like 2004) still no dice. The latter had it posting but would crash on boot. A new EVGA 400Watt = Success! Very stable too! Most machines I custom build on a budget I usually go with cheapo but name brand power supplys and so far havent seen one fail yet. I was familiar with HEC even used so of their HEC branded units. Werent anything to jump for joy about but were fairly reliable for the periods ive used them or seen them used. Never heard of greatwall. Neat knowing they supply for some of the big names.

I suppose this is a good example of how a lot of people are still prejudiced when it comes to "cheap looking" hardware and "unknown brands". Every review of Wallmart's OP PCs bragged about how this PSU is cheap sht and is gonna blow up and has to be replaced, when in truth them may have even replaced it with the same PSU just rebranded :D I wonder how bitwits replacement holds up compared to this Great Wall one lol.

Bestec, bestec, bestec. Hey Emachines just called. They want their cheap power supplies back! But, i am pleasantly surprised. Ok, so not a great power supply and I would question how long it might last just like with the Bestec branded flamers, and for the price of them systems I would expect something better. Still, by the looks of the data it could be worse.

I'm keen to see further testing of most popular PSUs, great to see some PSU objective content, I feel this is definitely where the consumers are most uninformed for PC parts. Would be great to know the difference between various PSUs (including just how impactful their cert rating is) and price points. You guys should look at making a website similar to the likes out there that compare CPUs and GPUs (e.g - userbenchmark.com), obviously not user tests, but solid comparisons in laymans terms to help us get the best value for $ would be awesome.

Everyone has been all too eager to shit all over the walmart PC. Are they overpriced for what you get? Yeah, definitely... Is there anything actually wrong with them, from a component selection or build quality standpoint? No, there isn't. These systems use budget parts and they retail it at a none budget price tag. That is really all you can say about it.

@2:05 "it's all gonna be the same..." this is a totally FALSE assumption. The manufacturer will NOT build the same thing for every 'brand name' as they all go in and specify what the want (design), what they are willing to pay and even what different materials are to be used. This results in the manufacturer doing things differently for each of their customers. So while some things may look the same, anything and everything that CAN be changed MAY BE in fact be different from 'brand name' to brand name'. Just cause the same company actually makes it does NOT mean that there are no differences. This is very much like the tire industry... there are very few tire manufacturers, they companies that mold-inject inject tires, everything from tread, to 'rubber' compound, to what material the ply's are made from and more are determined by the 'branded company'. You pay a carpenter 1,000$ to make a desk, you will not get the same desk as the other guy who paid 10,000$; even though they were made by the same carpenter. Same thing with power supplies, if you pay great wall wholesale 50$ to build a power supply, you will get a much better one than if you pay them 5$. They may be able to make a GREAT power but they WON'T if you don't pay them to. Performance wise you show that the power supply is ok, but will all the components last for years, will the specs still be the same after lots of strenuous use, etc etc.

@gamers nexus would it be possible to run 1 or 2 tests with a 230v supply? like 20% & 30% load efficiency. just for us UK, European and Auzzie viewers so we can get a feel of consistency across voltages? I don't expect you to double up all of your tests but one or 2 data points would be good. like if 2 psus are almost identical in performance at 110v, but at 220v one is 10% more efficient than the other at a single load, that would be a valuable bit of info to help make a purchasing decision

So in the end, exactly as I said.... this thing is really completely fine. Has some awesome performance especially considering its price, and you would have to spend 2-5x as much to have better performance? Okay, lets find whats next to talk shit about. Just goes to show that the average tech viewer doesn't know a single goddamn thing about tech, they are just lost in a world of marketing and markups as companies rip you off blindly by reselling units just like this one, but with their brands slapped on you the price at 200%. Why do you guys think that there are 500000 power supply brands today? Because all these brands can buy units just like this one, which are "fine" in 99% of scenarios, slap their brands on and sell for double.

Finally, some objective testing. While it's nice to have a safety net, most people seriously overspec their PSUs too much. I've run a Xeon E5-1680v2 with a Gigabyte RX Vega 64 Gaming OC on a cheap Corsair VS650 power supply without issues. The Walmart PC with its stock Core i7 and GTX 1070 Ti consumes much less than this. I'm aware that Vega 64 does spike up to 100W over the average consumption, but the VS650 can supply up to 600W peak on the +12V rail which still provides headroom after spikes. My Seasonic X850 died after several years of use and I had to get the VS650 since it was the only thing I could get on such short notice. I'll use the VS650 for the meantime until Ryzen 3000 arrives, which by then I'll be forced to upgrade my PSU since 16 or more cores will easily eat a lot more power.

I don't understand how you idiots would believe that Walmart, one of the biggest companies in the world, would risk setting customers' homes on fire. Imagine the amount of claims that would hit their legal team every day if they sold a computer with a shit PSU. Walmart PCs are made for people who know nothing about building, grandmas that see a 999 dollar PC that would make their grandsons happy and they just use the cash they have under the mattress. Stop freaking out, people. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's THAT simple. Get your 999 dollars and buy the parts you find appealing to you. And shut the fuck up, seriously.

I've used an Ebay (not branded by Ebay nor endorsed by Ebay, but rather this is where I bought it from), Maybe KDM branded (thinking it wasn't), 600W (as their advertising went, "Pay for 550w get a 600w..." It had a Yellow fan, I ordered 3 of them thinking it would work for project power supply (not used for PC, but utilizing 12v end). I later gave one to a desperate friend, it seemed to work fine for him, then we used one in a build in our household, and it still works fine, the 3rd one however... lol Shot a 3 foot arc out of the PSU luckily it was laying on top of the PC case we were trying to work on, and oddly enough it was being used on a Motherboard that would not post, after this Arc of the PC gods, the PSU obviously was shot, but later a better PSU was introduced, and this Motherboard posted... I DO NOT recommend ever trying to bring back a Motherboard in this Frankenstein scenario... But oddly I do remember it was a Black PSU case, no LED but it did have a "Stylish" yellow fan (puke), I want to say they now have a Red (or Maroon fan) in their latest revision, closest thing I could find on Ebay. I'm really interested in seeing how your PSU testings go, this could be a great thing. As I have found most Big name PSU's have their flaws as well... This is a very good way to expose the absolute WEAKEST link! Where before all this high powered requirements (1990ish jargon), Hard drives were the weakest link or... Floppy Drives if you were so lucky to have DOS still. Fun series I think, good luck and thanks in advance!
